Survey says: Lack of public awareness could hinder Green Deal success
Public lack of awareness about the cost of energy could threaten the success of the forthcoming Green Deal scheme a survey has indicated.
A YouGov survey on behalf of electricals supplier Rexel found that 81% of UK adults who receive energy bills do not know exactly how much they spend on energy.
In contrast, only 13% of people said they knew exactly how much energy they have used and how much their bill will be.
Jerry Hamilton, renewable energy director for Rexel, said:
"[Our survey] clearly highlights the vast lack of awareness among the UK public with regards to energy consumption."
"If initiatives like the Green Deal are to take off and deliver on the promises they make, the wider industry has a crucial role to play."
"I am confident that, if the industry can really focus on education, Green Deal deployments will rise significantly."
