Content Coms is now B Corp Certified: our business is a force for good

We are delighted that in March 2023 Content Coms became a Certified B Corp CorporationAs a B Corp in the comms and PR industry, we’re counted among businesses that are leading a global movement for an inclusive, equitable, and regenerative economy.

The B Corp community in the UK, representing a broad cross section of industries and sizes, comprises over 1,100 companies and include well-known brands such as The Guardian, innocent, Patagonia, The Body Shop and organic food pioneers Abel & Cole.

You might be familiar with B Corp but if you aren’t then here’s a short history.

B Corp’s founders B Lab started in the USA in 2006 with the idea that profit and purpose could and should be balanced and that a different kind of economy was not only possible, but necessary. They believed that business could lead the way towards a new, stakeholder-driven model, which would in turn transform the global economy into a more inclusive, equitable, and regenerative system. They set the B Corporation standard against which companies could be measured and began to certify businesses that meet those standards as B Corporations.

Quantifying our Impact

Why did we start this journey? Well, a year or two ago, Content Coms was looking for a way of quantifying our impact as a business. We did our research and when we read about B Lab’s vision of an inclusive, equitable and regenerative economy which balances profit with purpose, this resonated with our team.

We took a good look at the assessment process. The B Impact Assessment measures a company’s performance in five areas: Governance, Workers, Community, Environment and Customers, and the route through the Impact Assessment is governed to some extent by the size of your company.

Whatever size your company, all companies -who go for B Corp are assessed and audited against the same rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability and transparency.

How did we do? Based on the B Impact assessment, Content Coms earned an overall score of 85.7. The median score for ordinary businesses who complete the assessment is currently 50.9 – which tells you everything! [You can see the detail of our score here].

Start of the journey

Confirmation of our B Corp Certification doesn’t mark the end of our journey; organisations must be re-accredited every three years in order to keep their certification and there is an expectation of continual improvement.

B Lab says that ‘B Corps reap remarkable benefits. They build trust with consumers, communities, and suppliers; attract and retain employees; and draw mission-aligned investors’. We are very pleased and proud indeed to find that the way we’ve done business for years is in fact the way other aspire to do business. B Corp Certification really validates what we do and how we do it – and we’re really looking forward to the road ahead.

Well, we think it will work well for us and we are all very excited about what we do next to continue to grow and improve.
