Bristol crowned European Green Capital 2015

Bristol is now officially the greenest city in the European Union, reports Energy Live News.

It is the first in the UK to be given the European Green Capital status since the award was launched in 2008.

The European Commission said the Jury was impressed by Bristol’s green credentials, which include homes becoming 25% more energy efficient in the last 10 years, almost a fifth of residents walking to work and the city’s low carbon economy employing around 9,000 people.

Bristol has also pledged to cut carbon emissions by 40% by 2020 and has become the first UK city to join an international platform for local and sub-national climate action.
