Britain’s SMEs drive low carbon export boom
The number of UK small businesses exporting low carbon goods and services has more than doubled in the last two years, according to a major new study to be launched today, writes Greenwise Business.
The research by green business advice group the Carbon Trust and the Shell Springboard cleantech innovation competition, reveals that 76 per cent of the UK’s low carbon small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are now exporting abroad – up from 37 per cent two years ago. It found that two in five low carbon SMEs have already entered foreign markets with new technologies.
Small enterprises account for more than 90 per cent of the UK’s low carbon sector, which is currently estimated to be worth more than £120 billion to the UK economy in annual sales.
