Steering the conversation: Content Coms’ CEO Chairs LIA Conference

Building safety is one of the topics we care about the most at Content Coms.  We were thrilled that our CEO Joanna Watchman was asked to chair the Lighting Industry Association’s ICEL Emergency Lighting Conference for the second year in a row.

This major event is the leading platform for manufacturers, consultants and specifiers in the field of emergency lighting. It brings together over 200 key stakeholders representing every part of the supply chain.

This year, the conference was particularly timely. Taking place just 8 days after publication of Sir Martin Moore Bick’s Report on the Grenfell Disaster – a tragedy in which 72 people lost their lives –  the event provided a forum for experts to share the latest on compliance and competence in the emergency lighting sector.

It was also an opportunity to hear from experts, including keynote speaker, Professor Ed Galea, founding Director of the Fire Safety Engineering Group (FSEG) at the University of Greenwich. The Professor was one of the professional experts on the Grenfell Inquiry.

Joanna was invited to Chair the conference having led the discussion at the inaugural conference in 2023.  Joanna is a passionate advocate for building safety and reform and has long-championed greater transparency in the construction sector.

An experienced Chair, Jo steered a full day of presentations, panel discussions and Q&A sessions as well as taking the lead on the introduction, context and summing up.  She said that the most impactful ‘takeaway’ from the day was a single, simple message to the whole supply-chain:

“IGNORANCE IS RIFE. BUT IGNORANCE IS NO EXCUSE”

Powerful words that few can afford to ignore.
