Joanna Watchman appointed to LIA’s Performance Task Force

Content Coms’ Managing Director, Joanna Watchman, has been appointed to the Lighting Industry Association (LIA)’s Performance Task Force. This new industry group has been established to help strengthen consistency, transparency and confidence in the way lighting performance claims are calculated, evidenced and communicated.

Bringing together technical specialists, manufacturers and commercial leaders from across the lighting sector, the Performance Task Force will develop industry guidance on the calculation, presentation and substantiation of key performance claims. It will also help shape the future direction of the LIA Quality Assurance programme, identifying which claims should be independently assessed and the evidence required to support them.

Joanna joins the group as a specialist in communications strategy, sustainability messaging and green claims, bringing almost 30 years’ experience working with organisations across the lighting sector.

Champion for transparency

Throughout her career, Joanna has developed strategic communications programmes for leading lighting brands including GE Lighting, Siemens, OSRAM, Tamlite and Thorlux, as well as numerous smart technology and controls companies. She also provides strategic communications and ESG guidance to the LIA, and regularly chairs industry events on sustainability and greenwash. Joanna has chaired the LIA’s annual ICEL Conference for the last three years and contributes to international events for organisations including World Green Building Council and the International WELL Building Institute.

Commenting on her appointment to the LIA Performance Task Force, Joanna said:

“The lighting industry has an outstanding track record of innovation, but as customer expectations and regulatory scrutiny continue to evolve, it’s more important than ever that performance claims are supported by clear evidence and communicated responsibly. Joining the LIA’s Performance Task Force gives me a unique opportunity to support a sector I am passionate about, and help LIA Members to communicate in an authentic, consistent way that builds trust across the sector.”

Joanna’s appointment reflects both her long-standing involvement in the lighting industry and Content Coms’ commitment to supporting organisations with communications that stand up to scrutiny.
